Abstract
Water Jet Cutting Machine System Design for Non-Metal Materials Cutting Process. This research is a manufacturing technology that is currently widely developed because it has several advantages compared with other machine tool technology. Water Jet Cutting Machine is the ideal machine for cutting a variety of materials and very flexible compared to laser machines and plasma. Water Jet cutting process using does not generate heat, so as to eliminate the occurrence of warping (bending) in materials such as copper, aluminum and thin material. Given the advantages that exist in a Water Jet cutting machine then in this study developed a Water Jet cutting machine system design according to the requirements. This research will be to design a system Water Jet Cutting machine that will be used for non-metal material cutting process, in which the material to be cut is Polycarbonate plastic with ultimate tensile strength = 70 MPa, assuming a thickness of 10 mm. Desired water output pressure is 250 MPa. Where the nozzle dimensions required in this design is 0.3 mm diameter, 0.8 mm diameter upstream and nozzle body lenght is 5.5 mm. Assumptions the nozzle distance from workpiece (standoff distance) = 1 mm. Orifice is a very important component in the cutting head Water Jet Machine . Performance of Water Jet Machining depends on the jet nozzle, jet fluid and the workpiece material. For cutting Polycarbonate used to orifice with the material is Shappire and UHP Intensifier Pump with 30 HP power.
