Abstract

This research aims to improve engine performance by means of adding length to the intake manifold so as to prolong the effects of turbulence in the intake manifold, it can improve the quality of the fuel mixture homogeneity. Objects in this study is a supra-fit honda 100 cc with the use of a standard intake manifold, modified by the addition of a length of 50 mm at the inlet and the addition of a 50 mm length of the outlet section. Analysis of the data is done by the data retrieval engine rotation, the force due to the spring loading on the dynamometer, and the time spent on fuel consumption by 4 ml in volumetric flask. Once the data is obtained and processed in order to get the value of torque (T), power (P), and specific fuel consumption (SFC). Data calculation results are then displayed in graphical form hereinafter described with simple sentences. In this study obtained torque, power and specific fuel consumption of the most optimal use of the standard intake manifold that is 8.09 Nm, 4.12 hp, and 0.14 kg / hp.h at 3600 rpm rotation, where the value is more optimal than with the use of intake manifold with the addition of a length of 50 mm at the inlet and the intake manifold with the addition of a length of 50 mm at the outlet. These results indicate the existence of the phenomenon of evaporation in the intake manifold so menurunkkan efficiency volumetric, this is because the fuel will immediately evaporate in areas lengthening the intake manifold and a vapor fuel will replace the incoming air, with reduced air supply becomes comparable to the intake of the fuel so will affect the heat is not effective
