Abstract

Making transparent soap from palm oil has been successfully carried out. The addition of kalamansi citrus oil could be expected to increase the advantageof transparent soap. The purpose of this research is to know the physicochemical characteristics of transparent soap in various additions of Kalamansi orange oil and to find out which transparent soap is preferred by panelists. Kalamansi orange oil used comes from the Kalamansi orange processing industry in Bengkulu. The amount of Kalamansi orange oil added is 1 ml, 2 ml and 3 ml per 60 g of palm oil. The physicochemical characteristics observed included moisture content, hardness, foam stability, pH, free alkali content and the level of preference of panelists. The transparent soap produced have 21.13 - 22.93 % for water content, 0.0197 - 0.0217 mm/g/s for hardness, 65.16 - 77.78 % for foam stability, 10.62 - 10.75 for pH 10.62 - 10.75 and 0,15 – 0,19 % for free alkali. Transparent soap was most preferred by the panelists was soap with addition 1 ml of Kalamansi orange oil.
