Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine an effective method and type of base to reduce lignin levels and increase cellulose levels and determine the highest glucose levels from the cellulose hydrolysis process. This study uses a randomized block design (RBD) with 2 factors. The first factor is of 2 types of bases namely delignification of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) while the second factor is a method consisting of 3 levels, namely 24-hour immersion without heating, 60 minutes heating at 121ºC without immersion, and a combination of immersion 24 hours and heating at 121ºC for 60 minutes. The data analysis method used in this study is ANOVA. The conclusion of this research is the combination method of 24-hour immersion and heating with 4% NaOH base type which is effective for reducing lignin levels and increasing cellulose levels. Most glucose levels were obtained from a combination of immersion and heating methods with 4% NaOH base type from the results of cellulose hydrolysis process which was 7.33%.
