Abstract

The aims of this research were to find out the the students’ ability in writing a compare and contrast essay. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The subjects were 50 of fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Bengkulu in academic year of 2019/2020. The data were collected from a writing test and used two raters to assessing the score. There are four aspects that had been assessed on the students’ writing in compare & contrast essay: essay organization, paragraph organization, sentence structure, and grammar & mechanics. The result shows that the students’ ability in writing compare and contrast essay was in adequate level with the mean score of 45.16. The result also reveals that sentences structure of the students’ writing got the highest score among all aspect with the mean score of 59.6. Meanwhile the lowest score came from paragraph organization aspect with the mean score of 40.92. Keywords: Students’ Ability, Compare and Contrast
