Abstract

This research aims at discovering to what extent When English Rings A Bell textbook published by The Ministry Of education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia in 2016 met the criteria of a good textbook. This research used descriptive quantitative method to analyze the content of the textbook. The data were gathered by evaluating the content by using checklists evaluation criteria. In the data analysis technique, the total criteria points which were met in a textbook for each sub aspect was divided by the total of criteria points in each sub aspect and times 100%. In ensuring judgment whether the criterion is fulfilled by the textbook or not. The researcher was helped by a teacher as a co-researcher. The result confirmed that When English Rings A Bell had met the criteria of satisfactory textbook with the fulfillment 73% from four aspects criteria, subject and content, skills and subskills, layout and practical consideration aspects .The result of each aspects are different in this textbook. This textbook is categorized as a good textbook viewed from the subject and content aspect and the layout aspect Meanwhile, viewed from skills and subskills aspects and the practical consideration aspects, It does not fulfilled the criteria as a good textbook.
