Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether the students taught by Guided Questions technique achieve significantly higher score than those who were taught by conventional method at grade X of SMAN 3 Kota Bengkulu. This study employed a quasi experimental research design. The sample of this study is the first grade students of SMAN 3 Kota Bengkulu consisting of 60 students who divided into two classes, experiment and control class. The instrument employed in this research was writing test which was aimed at measuring students‟ writing ability. The finding of this research showed that the students taught by guided question achieve significantly higher score than those who were taught by conventional method at grade X of SMAN 3 Kota Bengkulu with the sig. (2-tailed) of post-test was 0.000 which was less than 0.05 with t=-7.779. The students taught by guided question technique could achieve significantly higher score than those who were taught by conventional method at grade X of SMAN 3 Kota Bengkulu. It can be seen that the students‟ writing ability in experiment class showed a significant difference of students‟ score after treated by using guided question technique. While in control group, the students‟ writing score did not show a significant difference between pre-and post-test result. It means that guided question technique was effective to be applied in teaching writing report text. Key words: Writing Ability, Guided Question Technique
