Abstract

Abstract : The aimed of this research was to found out the correlation between student anxiety and their speaking achievement in English Conversation course. This study was descriptive research. The subject of this research were second semester students of English Study Program at Bengkulu University. The data were collected by using questionnaire and test. The researcher used person product moment formula to calculate the correlation and interpretation of correlation by Arikunto (2013) to determine the strength of correlation. There were two hypothesis namely H0 means that there was no correlation between the two variables and Ha means that there was a negative or positive correlation between the two variables. The result of this research shows that, from the significance 2 tailed, the value of significance level was .001 which is < .05 and the correlation coefficient value was -422 (the signal ‘negative’ indicated the significant negative correlation and the value 422 showed the strength of correlation). It can be summarized that, there was a significant negative correlation between students anxiety and their speaking achievement in English conversation course in moderate level. It means that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. Keyword : Correlation, Anxiety, Speaking, Achievement, Conversation
