Abstract

Diabetic Retinopathy is a disorder of the blood vessels in the retina in patients with Diabetes Mellitus (Diabetes). Diabetic Retinopathy is classified into Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR) and Proliverative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR). Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy can be characterized by eye conditions that contain elements of Microanerysms, Hemorrhages and Exudates, while Proliverative Diabetic Retinopathy is an advanced stage that causes visual disturbances. The purpose of this study was to segment the area of Hemorrhages in Diabetic Retinopathy with the Region Growing method, and to determine the success rate of the application in segmenting Hemorrhages using the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy test method. The test in this study uses an object-based performance evaluation, namely finding the area of Hemorrhages by finding the same pixel value between the Groundtruth image and the image resulting from the Matlab application. Based on the tests that have been carried out on the system for segmenting the Hemorrhages area on the DIARETDB1 image, the average sensitivity value = 8.82%, specificity = 6.50% and accuracy = 7.16%.
