Abstract

This study aims to explore, describe and explain why adolescents in the city of Bengkulu form a group of indie music, in addition it aims to explore, describe and explain any form of support from the public on indie music groups. The study was conducted using Symbolic interactionism theory. This study used qualitative research methods explorative. Data collected through observation, interviews and documentation. Selection of informants is based on purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed qualitatively that includes testing, election categorization, evaluation, comparison, data reduction until the conclusion and verification to get the concepts as a result of research. The results showed that there are a variety of reasons that teenagers in the city of Bengkulu formed indie music groups, music groups that are outside the music industry track label. First, any environmental influences peer group consisting of school friends, neighbors and relatives, teenagers form a group of indie music because based on the school environment, but it is also based on the neighbors and also stay the same. Both formed because of the invitation by a friend. Third, form a group of indie music because I wanted to show the existence and identity groups. Furthermore, or fourth, form a group of indie music as an alternative pathway to work in the outside lane label music industry. Fifth factors such interaction that includes imitation imitation of family members, friends and well imitation of an imitation of the idol, the next there is a suggestion that include the suggestion by a family member, then as identification. Through various measures ranging from the process of promoting his work and not without reason when indie music group formed by teenagers already known by the public, thus the results showed there are various forms of public support for indie music groups covering. First, hold the event in the festival for indie music groups. Second, the availability of extracurricular music both at school and at university. Third, an invitation to perform in either receptions or birthday event, and the subsequent provision of specialized segments show good indie music groups on local television and radio.
