Abstract

This research is aimed at finding out the types and the functions of slang words used in Fury movie. The writer focuses the study on the Fury movie by using theory from Allan & Burridge, 2006. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used a table to identify and categorize the data and three dictionaries related to slang there are Slang Archive Dictionary, Urban Dictionary, and NTC‟s Dictionary of American Slang and Colloquial Expression Third Edition. The results of data showed 43 cases of the types and the functions of slang words in Fury movie. First result, All of types is used in the film, imitative types is the dominant types that used in this film because Fury is a movie about war. The actors using slang words almost in every situations and most of the words that used in this movie is imitating from Standard English terms or combination two different words. Second result, from all of functions of slang words in Fury movie to initiate relax conversation is the dominant function that used in this movie because in the some of scenes in the movie actors using slang to have a smooth conversations and make the conversation run more lelaxed then they can feel more comfortable because they have close relationship. the writer do not found the function of intimate information, it might happened because the story of this movie is about war, the soldiers fighting, killing, and caring for their each country. The actors have no time to alleviate relationship among the strangers to reduce social distance and more comfortable, because they are more take care of their people. For students and the readers, this research hopefully can help increase knowledge about slang words by understand the types, functions, theories, and meaning and also hopefully can help knowledge the readers who do not know about slang before. For other researchers, this research expected can help as a reference for other researchers who interest to analyze slang words. The writer suggest to analyzed slang in other object like novels, songs, magazines, comics and etc. Keywords: Slang Words, Fury, Movie.
