Abstract

This research aimed to find out translation techniques applied by the translator and the translation quality in terms of accuracy of the Enggano Island brochure. This research was a descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research was the Enggano Island brochure published by the Province Tourism Office of Bengkulu. The data were collected from both Indonesian and English version of the Enggano Island brochure. The researcher analyzed the data by applying the theory of Molina and Albir (2002). The instrument of this research was observation checklist. The result of this study showed that there were eleven types of translation techniques applied by the translator of the Enggano Island brochure namely adaptation, calque, borrowing, description, transposition, reduction, amplification, literal translation, modulation, linguistic compression, and generalization techniques. In conclusion, among the eleven techniques, the literal translation was the most frequent techniques that occurred thirty one times. The translation quality in terms of accuracy of the Enggano Island brochure according to Nababan et. al (2012) theory is less accurate. It is suggested that the next researcher is able to conduct a further study about other translation elements that are not discussed in this study so the readers can get plenty of references about translation. Keywords: Enggano Island, Brochure, Translation Techniques, Translation Quality.
