Abstract

This study aims to describe the participation of the community in the development of coastal areas into a tourist attraction. This research was conducted in Pantai Tapak Paderi Village Kelurahan Keling, Sub-district Gulf Segara, Bengkulu City. Because the people who live in the coastal area Tapak Paderi this has the creative to manage the waste that used as a place of selfie spot, the place is used as a place of tourist attraction Pondok Sandal Jodoh in Tapak Paderi Beach. The research method used is qualitative with observation technique, in-depth interview and documentation, the informant is determined by snowball sampling technique to manage the tourism object of Pondok Sandal Jodoh. To analyze the results of this study using the action theory of the social definition paradigm. The results of this study indicate that community participation in the development of coastal areas become a tourist attraction, because the local fishermen who are concerned about the amount of bottled and sandal trash drifting on the beach, so the fishermen collect the garbage according to their respective types. So that coastal communities do gotong royong activities to clean the coastal areas and the community also use the existing waste in the coastal area to be managed into a unique and interesting creations so that a single point of the beach area used as a place to take pictures or berselfie. The waste is used sandals, plastic bottles and other garbage. Due to the conflict of interest then finally the tourist object Pondok Sandal Jodoh closed in September 2017. But with the lid of tourist attraction Pondok Sandal Jodoh, then emerged another tourist attraction to replace and its location was adjacent.
