Abstract
During adolescence, there are not only various kinds of changes that include physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual changes, behavior, but also changes in self-concept. Self-concept is an individual's understanding of himself, which in turn will become a guide for action. This study aims to describe the self-concept of adolescent labor in Bengkulu City, using qualitative research methods. There were 9 informants, consisting of 5 main informants, namely child laborers, and 4 supporting informants from families of child laborers. Informants were determined through the incidental technique. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies. The self-concept of child labor in this study is seen through four aspects, namely physical, social, moral, and psychological. The self-concept of child labor in this study is seen through four aspects, namely the physical aspect seen from the informant's assessment of the state of the body, health, and appearance. The social aspect is the informant's assessment of the ability to carry out roles in the family, as well as the people around the place where they are active. The moral aspect is the informant's assessment of honesty, responsibility, and religiosity. Also the psychic aspect is seen from the ability to describe oneself, and conclude how he will be in the future. The results showed that the self-concept of working children at the age of teenagers in Bengkulu City was positive, because the informants understood good and bad, and knew how to implement values in physical, social, moral and psychological aspects. Although the values in these four aspects have not been able to be carried out optimally and consistently, the informants have enthusiasm in carrying out daily work activities, and have pride in themselves that more or less have been able to help their parents, when most teenagers are the same age, they are still completely dependent on their parents. However, every type of work certainly has risks, especially for the development of adolescent self-concept. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the Regional Government conduct a special program to improve the economic welfare of the families of child laborers, so that the intensity of child labor at work can be reduced or even stopped.
