Abstract

The aim of this descriptive study was to find out the category of cognitive domain of Revised Bloom ‟s Taxonomy in 12 reading tests made by the English teachers at SMPN 20 Bengkulu city, Indonesia. The population of this study consisted of 12 reading tests, comprising all sets of multiple choice tests and essay tests, with a total of 256 test items made by three English teachers. Total sampling was used. The data were collected by using checklist as an instrument by theory. Checklists were used to analyze the level of cognitive domain such as remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. The results showed that there were 48 (18.75%) test items that used remembering, 35 (13.67%) test items that used understanding, 106 (41.40%) test items that used applying, 65 (25.4%) test items that used analyzing, and 2 (0.78%) test items that used evaluating. The reading tests made by the English teachers at SMPN 20 Kota Bengkulu contained almost the whole of the components, except the creating level or higher levels. It could be concluded that the dominant level of cognitive domain of R evised Bloom ‟s Tax onom y was the applying level. Therefore, the tests made by English teachers at SMPN 20 Bengkulu might need improvement in order to satisfy the requirement for good tests.
