Abstract

The research investigated taboo words uttered by the acts in Bad Teacher movie. The objectives of this research are to describe functions of taboo words uttered by the acts in the movie. This research employed descriptive qualitative as the method. The iinstrument of this research is oobservation method. The instrument of observation is checklist. The data were collected by used documentation technique. The results of this research are stated as follows. Firstly, there are four functions of taboo words named to show contemptuous, to draw attention to oneself, to show provocative, and to mock authority. The most application function is to show contemptuous for female acts and to draw attentions to onesefl is the most application function for male acts. Secondly, some of teacher’s characters were found seen from representations of bad ethics and bad eetiquette teacher in the movie consist of anti-hero character (disparage teacher profession), ignorant to the students, often talk dirty (say taboo words), hobby consume marijuana and smoker, brutal appearance (undisciplined), the way in teaching not educate (irresponsibility), crafty person (liar), uncouth person, and disrespect. Thirdly, relations between Indonesian ideal teacher with teacher’s characters in the movie, teacher must possess teacher’s competences. Based on the results, people produce taboo words in strongest emotioning condition because of some reasons. Many people with higher educational background use taboo words but for being an ideal teacher, a teacher must possess teacher’s competences.
