Abstract

This research was aimed to know how the way someone exploited Grice’s maxims and how the contexts of conversation could affect the transmission of meaning. The subject of this research were two main characters of Me Before You movie. The instruments used for collecting the data were video and transcription. This research used discourse analysis study. The results shows that the main characters were not only following the maxims but also breaking them. The main characters broke the maxim to get the meaning across. Inner context mostly effected the main characters in transmitting the meaning. It shows on how well they would be cooperating with other people.
