Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of anxiety of pre service teachers at secondary school in Bengkulu and to find out the factors that cause anxiety that they experienced. This study used a mixed method with totaling sampling as much as 30 people from class A, B, and C who were taken by using random technique sampling. The results of this study show that 14 students (46.6%) were at the mildly anxious level, 8 students (26.6%) were at the anxious level, 6 students (20%) were at the relaxed level, and 2 students (6.6 %) were at the very anxious level. Then, based on the results of interviews, it was found that there were five factors that cause anxiety in teaching; (1) Self-perception of language proficiency, (2) teaching inexperience, (3) lack of student interest, (4) fear of negative evaluation and (5) difficulties with time management. It means that the feeling of anxiety need to be solved by giving some trainings for pre-service teachers’ before their practicing teaching at schools. It is hope that the feeling of anxiety for pre-pre service teachers’ can be reduced and will not interfere the teaching and learning activities in classroom.
