Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the students’ perceptions of the use of Google Translate in learning English. The design of this research was Mix method that consist of qualitative and quantitative approach. The sample of this research was English Education students’ in academic year of 2022/2023, the total numbers of the students were 60. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The questionnaire was validated by the expert. In reliability obtains was using Cronbach’s Alpha formula in SPSS software. In questionnaire result, the researcher used tables to serve the data. While, in the interview, the researcher describes the data qualitatively. Then, the majority of the students have positive perception on the use of Google Translate in learning English. The last one, the students showed most of them used Google Translate during the process of learning English. This tools also help the students in developing their English ability such as increasing vocabulary. It means that the student have positive perception towards Google Translate tools. Besides the student who think that google translate is usually used in their daily learning. It showed from 83,25% students mentions that the students have Google Translate application in their gadget. The highest percentage is the statement number eight that is “Google translate is a good tools in translation class” with percentage 85.25%. It means that more than 85% students agree if the Google Translate is a good tools in translation class. Finally, the students perceptions about google translate above mostly positive . There is just one statement in negative to positive. So, the result above showed how google translate works in the tranlations class and the students experiences in using google translate. Therefore, for the next research, the researcher suggests to conducted a research how to develop the students translation ability through other media.
