Abstract

With Levinson's theory (1983), this study aims to analyze the types of deixis used by the main characters as well as the references to the deixis used in the Netflix series "Wednesday". This study used the descriptive-qualitative method. The data in this thesis was obtained from the conversational scripts contained in the Wednesday series in episode 1. Based on the data obtained, there were 358 total deixis. The findings show that the person deixis is the most widely used deixis, with a total of 273 deixis, but the type of deixis used the least in this study is social deixis, with only 15 deixis. In this study, also found referents from the deixis used by the main character, namely, person deixis refers to the family and friends of the main character; place and time deixis refers to the setting and plot in the story; discourse deixis refers to the previous topic discussed by the main character; and social deixis refers to the main character's respect for the people around her. This shows that the role of the main character plays a very important role in the use of deixis. Keywords: Deixis, Netflix
