Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out the students' difficulties in acquiring speaking English at SMA Negeri 15 Muko-Muko and to find out the dominant factors that contributed to the students' difficulties in acquiring speaking English at SMA Negeri 15 Muko- Muko. The design of this research is quantitative. The total population is 46 students in class X, SMA Negeri 15 Muko-Muko, the researcher took all students of class X as the sample. Researcher used a questionnaire with 24 items and used Microsoft Excel to analyze the data. The results that have been found, it can be concluded that the internal indicator factors that most influence the first indicator were lack of confidence (58.69%), shyness (53.49%), anxiety (50.72%), and fear of making a mistake (43.48%). The external factor, the most influential indicator is the low motivation indicator, which got a score of 48.55%; the use of mother tongue and learning media has the same value of 46.38%; and the lack of parental attention is 39.85%, so from the conclusion above, the dominant factor for students having difficulty speaking English is an internal factor.
