Abstract
The implementation of a taxonomy hierarchy is very important as a basis for determining the extent to which learning activities can improve students' critical thinking abilities which can be demonstrated through the composition of HOTS and LOTS. This research aims to determine the composition of HOTS and LOTS in cognitive aspects in terms of language skills and language knowledge based on the revised Bloom's Taxonomy theory. This research employed content analysis with qualitative descriptive methods in the English Textbook entitled "Train of Thought" for class 12 of the Merdeka Curriculum. The data collection method used a checklist table instrument and was analyzed using simple percentages. The findings revealed that the LOTS composition still dominated overall, especially in the language skills aspect in the questions aspect of each skills activity with the indicator C2 (understand). Besides, in the learning aspect, LOTS composition dominated reading skills and HOTS composition dominated writing skills. The language knowledge aspect was dominated by HOTS which consists of vocabulary and grammar aspects. Therefore, the implications of this research analysis show that there are HOTS and LOTS compositions with different proportions in this English textbook. In conclusion, the books published by the Merdeka Curriculum currently contain HOTS and LOTS according to theory in different proportions.
