Abstract
This research discussed the directive speech acts used by all characters in The Healing Powers of Dude Television Series, which aimed to find out the types of directive speech acts and find out the contextual meanings of directive speech acts used in The Healing Powers of Dude: Television Series. Using a qualitative method, the data utilized a checklist instrument table to gather the data. The data were analyzed by using a classification of directive speech acts theory by Allan (1986). This research revealed the directive speech acts used in The Healing Powers of Dude Television Series, the data occurence of each type was 66 data of the advisory type, 50 data of requirement type, 31 data of requestive type, 9 data of prohibitive type, and 6 data of permissive type. The contextual meaning of each actions was also described based on the context of situation. It can be concluded that advisory acts was dominant in a series which topic related to mental health. Since a series which topic related to mental health contains ideas to help someone to overcome difficulties. Keywords: Speech Acts, Directive Speech Acts, The Healing Powers of Dude
