Abstract
The objectives of this research were to find out how the generic structure of recount text written by students and the writing problems faced by them. The researcher used written test and written interview as the instruments of this research by using mixed method research. The subject of this research was XI IPS 1 Class chosen based on purposive sampling because the researcher chose the class that had studied recount text and the class that still had problems in writing recount text. Apart from that, XI IPS 1 is a class that has been determined by the school and the teacher as a class that can be used to conduct this research. The number of students of XI IPS 1 was thirty-five students. The findings of this research showed that the recount text made by most of the students had a complete generic structure. From thirty-five recount texts, twenty-seven students wrote orientation completely, thirty students wrote events completely, and twenty-nine students wrote re-orientation completely. Then, the student had problems in writing recount text. There were twenty-five students had problems with the content. Twenty-six students had problems with organization. Twenty students had problems with grammar. Twenty-nine students had problems with vocabulary. The last, sixteen students had problems in mechanics.
