Abstract

Translation indeed plays a crucial role in facilitating the exchange of information and ideas across different cultures. However, it is not merely a matter of converting words from one language to another; translators also bridge cultural gaps. They must navigate the nuances of both languages and cultures to convey meaning accurately. This study aims to investigate the translation technique used by the translator in translating Howl's Moving Castle movie. This study employed descriptive qualitative to describe on translation technique analysis in the film Howl's Moving Castle. The findings show literal translation, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression, substitution amplification, adaptation, reduction, establish equivalency, modulation, transposition, generalization, particularization, and compensation are the 13 techniques used by the translator. Furthermore, the most often employed techniques are literal translation (142 times), linguistic amplification (18 times), and linguistic compression (10 times). Generalization, particularization, and compensation (one usage each) are the least frequently utilized techniques. Keywords: Analysis, Translation technique, Howl's Moving Castle movie
