Abstract

The objective of this research was to describe activities employed by the English teachers in closing the lesson at Junior High Schools in Bengkulu City in the 2012/2013 academic year. This was a descriptive research. The subjects of this research were 20 Junior High Schools English teachers. There were two kinds of instruments used in this research, they were: checklist and video camera. In collecting the data, the researcher did the procedure below: 1) Doing observation of teacher‟s activities in closing the lesson. 2) Recording the teaching and learning activities with using video camera. The data in this research were analyzed by using the steps: 1) Identifying the teachers‟ activities in closing the lesson in the observation list; 2) Classifying the teachers‟ activities in closing the lesson in the observation list results; 3) Writing the video recording into written form; 4) Counting the percentage of the teachers‟ activities in closing the lesson by using percentage formula. The results show that in concluding the materials, the certified English teachers gave the opportunity to students to conclude the materials by themselves. Then, the non certified teachers did not give the opportunity to students to conclude the materials by themselves. Finally, the difference between certified and non certified teachers was focused on the amount of the activity type that certified English teachers applied more activities that non certified ones.
