Abstract

Proportional stratified random sampling technique was used in this study. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The questionnaire was used to collect the data. The mean scores were showing that the students used Memory (2.9), Cognitive (2.8), Compensation (3.2), Metacognitive (3.7), Affective (2.9), and Social (3.2). this result indicated that many students were using Metacognitive strategy on the language learning strategies that was taken from the first year students’ of SLTPN 1 Bengkulu showed that the students score average in learning English is 3.12. It indicated that the first year students’ at SLTPN 1 Bengkulu sometimes use the overall strategy.
