Abstract
This study aimed to find out what kinds of English language skills were needed by the professional waiters in Bengkulu city. The design of this study was a descriptive research. The population consisted of 20 waiters in Bengkulu city. The instrument was an attitude scale, tried out with r=0,94. The result showed that English was very important and needed by the professional waiters in Bengkulu city. Speaking was considered the important skill as compared with others skills (100%), the second skill was listening (85%), the third skill was reading (80%), and the last was writing (60%). In speaking and listening skill, they sometimes perform directly and through telephone conversation. The reading materials in English that they often read were guiding books, kinds and compositions of food, and menu. Finally, the writing activity they often did was writing reservations in English.
