Abstract

The objective of this research was to investigate the perception of students of SMAN 5 Bengkulu toward English teaching techniques used by their English teachers. The population of this research was all the students of SMAN 5 Bengkulu there were 719 respondents. The sample of this research was 10% of all the population, employed by purposive random sampling method, which were 73 respondents. This research used questionnaire as its instrument. The result of this research showed that (1) the respondents had positive perception toward English teaching techniques in opening the lesson since, the total average of mean score was 3.58, (2) the respondents also had positive perception toward English teaching techniques in asking questions since, the total average of mean score was 3,77, (3) the respondents also had positive perception toward English teaching techniques in giving reinforcement since, the total average of mean score was 3,97, (4) the respondents also had positive perception toward English teaching techniques in making variations in teaching and learning activities since, the total average of mean score was 3,81, (5) the respondents also had positive perception toward English teaching techniques in classroom management since, the total average of mean score was 4,08, (6) the respondents also had positive perception toward English teaching techniques in closing the lesson since, the total average of mean score was 3,55.
