Abstract

The main objective of this study was to describe the school principal’s efforts in increasing the discipline of the teachers at State Junior High School of Muara Beliti in terms of; (a) attendance, (b) making teaching and learning program planning, (c) teaching and learning activity, (d) teaching and learning evaluation, (e) the supporting and obstructing factors of the school principal’s efforts in increasing the discipline of the teachers, and (f) the school principal’s efforts in overcoming the coming obstructions in order to increase the discipline of the teachers. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were the school principal, the teachers, the supervisor, the staff, the students, the school committee, and also the head of sub-district educational department office. The data were collected through interview, observation and documentation techniques. Data analysis process included collecting data, data reduction, data display, verification and drawing conclusion in order to know the efforts of the school principal in increasing teachers’ discipline at State Junior High School of Muara Beliti. The results of this research show that the school principal has done his best effort as the chief of the school in increasing the discipline of the teachers in terms of attendance, making teaching and learning program planning, teaching and learning activity and evaluation implementations. Furthermore, there were some obstructing factors which influenced the school principal’s effort in increasing the disciplines of the teachers; those factors were the long distance between the place of work-school and the place of living, the school principal’s full activities, the lack of fund, and the lack of distinct action from the school principal toward the undisciplined teachers.
