Abstract
The aim of this research was to investigate the role of parents in motivating, supervising, and guiding their children to improve their learning in English in SMPN 1 Kota Bengkulu. The role of parent divide in three points (the roles of parents in motivating), (the roles of parents in Supervising), (the roles of parents in guiding). The population of this research was all the 118 parent of that their children in bilingual class of the students in SMPN 1 Kota Bengkulu,. The sample of this research was the 25% of the entire population , which were 52 parent of the students. This research used questionnaires as its instrument. The data processed by using Linker scale, percentage, interval class, and weighted mean. The first, of the general results of the roles of parent’s analysis were as follow: first, concerning with the general parents role in motivating, the result showed that 35 % (from 52 parents) had often classification. The role of parents in supervising, the result showed that 33 % (from 52 parents) had often classification and, the roles of parents in Guiding, the result showed that 32 % (from 52 parents) had often classification role in guiding their children. Second, concerning with the overall the roles of the parent in motivating, supervising, and guiding their children to improve their learning in English had positive role. The assumption was based on the weighted mean score of the analysis, which was 3.80. Therefore, it may be concluded that the parents of the students in SMPN 1 Kota Bengkulu generally, they are motivating their children to improve their learning in English.
