Abstract

This research is aimed at examining the status of household food security and determining the influencing factors of the probability of household experiencing food insecurity. The paper tries to demonstrate the considerable influence of the household attributes to probability of household food security in two different economic base groups of households. This research is conducted in District of Mukomuko in Province of Bengkulu. Two hundred nineteen respondents divided into two groups of households, namely 110 fishery and 109 paddy farmers, are selected using simple random sampling. Logistic regression model is used to determine significant factors that influence the probability of household food insecurity. Using calorie intake as a household food security indicator, the paddy farmer household group exposures relative better household food security status than fishery households. The logistic model analysis also shows that the number of household members and household income are important factors in determining the probability of household experiencing food insecurity while women status and household economic base do not show significant role to probability of household food insecurity at any level of significance.
