Abstract
This research was a classroom action research carried out by implementing Three- Step Interview technique. This research aimed to investigate 1)how much couldthe three-step interview technique improve students’ speaking ability, and2) howdidthe students’respond to the use of three-step interview technique. The subject of this research was 27 students at Grade XI IPS 2 of SMAN 3 Kota Bengkulu. The data were obtained by using speaking test, observation checklist and interview as the instrument. Thedata collected were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively to answer the research questions. The students test score was calculated to know the improvement of students speaking ability. This data were supported by the observation checklist and interview. The research resultsindicate that a) The students’ speaking ability improved, and b) The students more motivated and involved in speaking class actively as they feel the learning is more fun and more challenging. It can be concluded thatthree-step interviewtechnique can improve students’ speaking ability.
