Abstract
The objective of this study is to describe the kinds of errors made by students of English study program in understanding the meaning of idiom ‘take’ and the possible causes of the errors made by students of English study program at Universitas Bengkulu in academic year 2011/2012. The population of this research was fourth semester of English study program of Universitas Bengkulu Academic Year of 2011/2012. The data was collected by using a idiom test and analyzed by using percentage formula. The result of this research showed that all of the students made different kinds of errors in understanding the idioms with the word ‘take’. ‘Takes over’ was the idiom that major students have made errors. In the details, there were 15 students or 37. 5% in using take place, 14 students or 35% in using took place, 24 students or 60% in using take care, 12 students or 30% in using takes care, 24 students or 60% in using take charge, 23 students or 57. 5% in using taking charge, 14 students or 35% in using take part, 20 students or 3 50% in using take part, 27 students or 67. 5% in using take after, 20 students or 50% in using take after, 24 students or 60% in using take back, 30 students or 75% in using take all, 15 students or 37. 5% in using take down, 26 students or 40% in using take easy, 23 students or 32,5% in using take easy, 29 students or 47. 5% in using take easy, 24 students or 60% in using take off, 28 students or 70% in using take off, 27 students or 67.5% in using take off, 31 students or 77.5% in using take over, 15 students or 37. 5% in using taken over, 28 students or 70% in using take over, 18 students or 45% in using take over, and 19 students or 47. 5% in using take over. And the dominant kinds of errors word take was verbal in nature; phrasal verb (11 idioms), kinds of errors word take was verbal in nature; noun verb (6 idioms) and the less kinds of errors was verbal in nature; double (2 idioms), prepositional verb (2 idioms) Pronoun verb (2 idioms), and adjective verb (2 idioms).
