Abstract

Quasi-experimental research is intended to obtain empirical data on the effectiveness of the use of powerpoint running text toward students 'reading speed and increase students' reading speed. The subject of this study consisted of 2 (two) class. Class V and V b as a control and experiment in SD Negri 22 Argamakmur. The experimental group was given instruction to read the text by using the powerpoint running text, while the control group not given. Both groups were measured using a test speed of reading a text passage. The results show an interaction between time (before and after the experiment) and ULC (experiment - control) interaction suggests change pre to post scores in both groups showed significant differences, with F = 21.835 (P <0.01) was means that the media runs the given text powerpoint can increase the speed of students with a donation reading effectiveness by 50% (fifty percent). Instructional media by using the current text powerpoint influenced by gender, with the speed of reading is more dominated by female students. These results suggest implikatif to school teachers to give learners a running text powerpoint media that proved to be effective in improving students' reading speed.
