Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki tipe, fungsi, dan alasan Alih Kode dan Campur Kode yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa semester 6 jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Bengkulu yang menjadi presenter dalam presentasi di kelas. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan sample meliputi 8 presenter dari 2 kelompok diskusi. Peneliti menggunakan rekaman video, daftar pemeriksaan, dan wawancara. Pengambilan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan video rekaman, rekaman ditranskripsi, identifikasi, diberikan kode, dikelompokkan, dan dianalisis. Alasan-alasan tindakan Alih Kode dan Campur Kode diperoleh melalui wawancara terstruktur. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bahasa dasar yang paling banyak digunakan oleh presenter adalah Bahasa Indonesia. Terdapat tiga jenis Alih kode dan tiga jenis Campur Kode. Tipe Alih Kode yang digunakan dalam presentasi kelas adalah inter-sentential code switching (48 %), intra-sentential code switching (30 %), and tag-code switching (22 %) ,serta tiga jenis Campur Kode adalah intra-lexical (66 %), inter-sentential (49 %), the change of pronunciation(14 %). Fungsi-fungsi Alih Kode: message qualification (100%), reiteration(66,6%) ,addressee specification (33 %), Interjection (22,2 %),and change the topic( 43%). Fungsi-fungsi Campur Kode: giving signal that she/he finished mentioning items (56%), talking to him/herself (33%), restructuring the confused turn (22%), signaling to start (56%), telling someone what part to explain (11%), explaining the difficult term in other code(78%), repeating vocabulary meaning in the other code 67%), giving conjunction (44%), connecting to the next explanation (78%), maintaining the standard code in certain language (67%), mentioning the prefix and suffix in the other code (22 %), and talking to particular person (33%). Alasan-alasan dalam Alih Kode dan Campur Kode: the lack of language ability (78%),unconditional habit (78 %), comfortable feeling(78%), no right expression in a language (100 %), the confusion of listeners (67%), interaction habit (44%), formal situation (22 %), informal situation (67%), the change of topic (44%), lack of facility (45%), less preparation (67%), feeling nervous(56 %), other people influence (22%), mood of speakers (45%), clear explanation (89%). Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa Alih Kode dan Campur Kode oleh mahasiswa dalam presentasi menggunakan bentuk, fungsi, dan alasan tersendiri. Namun Alih Kode dan Campur Kode dalam presentasi tidak dapat disangkal keberadaannya.
