Abstract

Deciding the appropriate choice of academic departments in terms of applying university constitutes a critical factor determining the success of student study. So many candidates of new student face a problem of choosing the departments that agree with their own potency and are assured to convey a better future. One way to choose such department is by implementing scientific methods one of whose alternative is AHP. This study aims at analyzing the conformity of choosing department by students of university through quantitative decision making approach of multi criteria with a case study on students of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty (FMIPA), the University of Bengkulu. Criteria in this study are the future career / employment, level lecture material ease, speed level studies, and existence, while the alternatives will be considen subject categories are contained in the FMIPA curriculum. The obtained data were applied to a pairwise comparison matrix, based on the selection of the questionnaire scale, comparison matrix upper triangular and lower triangular matrix comparisons to obtain the weight values for each of the criteria and alternatives. Level of consistency in the data matrix was measured using Consistency Ratio (CR). The results of this study can serve as an input for prospective students in choosing subject category in college.
