Abstract

The purposes of this research study are to work out ways to increase students’ result study and how students’ responses in teaching and learning mathemtics applying contextual teaching and learning and peer tutors. This is an action research study. The subjects of this reasearch students at grade VIIIa SMP Negeri 11 Bengkulu academic year 2007/2008. The data of this research study are collected by using tests, questionnaires, and photos, and then analyzed descriptively. This research study concludes that ways to increase students’ result study in teaching and learning mathemtics applying contextual teaching and learning and peer tutors, namely (a) Sperating students into several heterogenous groups and asking a student having a good ablity in mathematics as a tutor. (b) Giving tasks to students about lesson materials and problems relating to daily life; (c) Asking tutors to help their friends in their group and asking students to ask their tutor about difficult lesson materials; (d) Asking students to present their works; (e) Giving students a chance to discuss their works; (f) Asking students to prepare themselves to learn leasson materials for the next meeting. Students have positive responses towards the implementation of contextual teaching and learning and peer tutors in teaching and learning mathematics.
