Abstract

The use of tolerance cultivar was the most affordable contiol measure to cope with the yield loss due to CI.{V infection in the field. The genetics of such character is very important in desiEring an effective strategy to develop'CMV torleraace cultivars. This research was to study thc inheritance of tolerance to CMV on hot pepper "oased on the yield reduction characteristic. The study was corapleted on famiiies of parents; F' Fre F2, BCrp, and BC,-- generated from the cross of resistance and susceptible parents, i.e. CI024 x PBC4 I 7 arid e t OZ+ x PRCl3S4,innoc.ulatedmechanicattywithCivfvstrain02ihoculurn. TheresultsshowedthaitolerancetoCMV was controlled by :ruclear simple genes witir partial domminant gene action. The nuarber of genes segregated for t lerance character on the cross of C1024 x PBC417 and C1024 x IBCI354 were two and three genes, respectively. Brcad and narrow sense heritability estimates were high and medi';;n,.respectively.
