Abstract

The research purpose was to investigate the role of the latex of unripe fruit of Papaya(Carica papaya L) towards fertility of female mices (Mus musculus) BALB/C. The researchwas designed by Completely Random Sampling by four treatments and six replications.Samples (female mices) were treated by papaya’s latex 600 mg/kg BW/body weight (T1),800 mg/kg BW (T2) and 1000 mg/kg BW (T3). The control mices (T0) were given sterilizedbidestillated water at the same volume as those of the treatment groups. The gavage was given twice a week with two days interval breaking for each time gavage. Treated andcontrol mices were mated with untreated fertile male. The successful copulation was signedby the formation of vaginal plug at the next day. Vaginal plug was stated as zero ofpregnancy and mices were taken care until stomach section at 14 days of pregnancy. Miceswere killed by neck dislocation and stomach section, and then the number of corpus luteumand number of zigot implantation were counted. The result showed that papaya’s latex wasunsignificantly influencing the increase of body weight during a pregnant and pregnancyrate. However, it was statistically significant (p<0.05) in influencing towards female micesfertility. Dosage of the latex of papaya 1000 mg/kg body weight tend to decrease femalemices fertility more; those were fertility (78.36%), and pregnancy rate (21.85%). It couldconcluded that latex of papaya effective to decrease the fertility of female mices.
