Abstract
This research aimed to describe the type of code-switching and code-mixing used
by Deddy Corbuzier on a podcast in the YouTube Channel and to find out the
possible reasons why Deddy Corbuzier used code-mixing and code-switching in
his podcast based on Hoffman’s theory. This research used qualitative method.
The subject of this research was Deddy Corbuzier from video podcast in Deddy
Corbuzier YouTube channel. The instrument of this research was a video podcast
on Deddy Corbuzier's YouTube channel entitled “FIKI NAKI OH FIKI NAKI!!”.
In this study, the documentation method was used to collect data about the forms
and possible reasons for code-mixing and code-switching used by Deddy
Corbuzier on his YouTube channel. Then, the data were written in a table
checklist. The researcher analyzed the data by applying the theory of Hoffman.
The result showed that there were two types of code mixing and two types of
code-switching used by Deddy Corbuzier on his podcast. Code mixing includes
11 data of insertion type and 23 data of alternation type. Meanwhile, codeswitching includes 25 data of situational code-switching and 16 data of
metaphorical code-switching. Then, the researcher also found 12 possible reasons
why Deddy Corbuzier used code mixing and code switching namely talking about
a particular topic, quoting somebody else, being emphatic about something
(expressing solidarity), interjection, repetition, to soften or strengthen request or
command, real lexical need, English as a global language, spontaneously spoken,
profession, to make interesting, and environment.
