Abstract
This research aims to find out the dominant of translation shift and how the processes of
translation shift used in the Charlotte’s Web book. The research design was descriptive
qualitative research that used one chapter from Charlotte’s Web novel. The object of this
research is the children’s literature book of Charlotte’s Web where the English text becomes the
source language and Indonesian becomes the target language which is then analyzed. The data
were analyzed based on Catford’s theory. From the analysis, there are five types of translation
shift on 63 data, unit shift (46%), structure shift (32%), class shift (8%), intra-system shift (8%),
and level shift (6%). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the unit shift became the most
dominant due to many differences of vocabulary between source language and target language.
In addition, in children literature where the target of reader is children, translator needs to
explicitly present his translation by adjusting the words in the way that is easy to understand.
