Abstract
This research is aimed at finding out the categories and the cause factors of
social deixis in Kingdom of Heaven movie. In this research, the method of
the research was descriptive qualitative. The data of this research were all
dialogues of the main characters in Kingdom of Heaven movie. Instrument
of this research was an observation checklist. Data were collected by
reading the script of Kingdom of Heaven movie. The data revealed there
were two hundred and eighty eight. According to the observation checklist,
there were two hundred and eighty eight utterances found in categories of
social deixis and two hundred and seventy nine utterances in cause factors
of social deixis. The results of this research showed that the dominant
category of Social Deixis was Honorific counted as many as one hundred
and twenty. It was used for one hundred and twenty times from the total of
social deixis used in this movie. In the cause factors of social deixis, it was
showed that the dominant cause factor of social deixis was Social status. It
was used one hundred and forty eight times from the total of cause factors
of social deixis. In this research, the category of speech level was not found
due to the setting of the movie which was in the twelfth century in which the
category were rarely used.
