The Effectiveness of Using Web Blog in Developing Reading Skills in English (A Study at SMP N 6 Bengkulu City in The Academic Year 2021/2022)

This research aimed to find out whether web-blog learning significantly
improves students' reading skills. This research used experimental research
with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The population of this study was
the ninth-grade students of SMP N 6 Bengkulu City with the samples of
this study were 21 students as an experimental class. The research
instrument was in the form of tests namely pre-test and post-test. The
researcher analyzed the data by using SPSS version 25. The result showed
that there were differences in students' reading comprehension scores of
the students after they received the treatment by using web blogging in
developing their reading skills. Also, the paired sample test with the value
of sig. (2-tailed) was 0.008, which means that Ho is rejected and Ha is
accepted. Thus, it means that Web Blog was effective in developing
students' reading skills. In conclusion, English teachers in junior high
school can use Web blogs in teaching and learning activities especially in
reading skill activities.
