Abstract
This research was aimed to investigate the type of lexical collocation that the
most often erroneously translated by English students and Law students in
undergraduate theses‘ abstracts. Moreover, this research was aimed to uncover
which was better in translating the lexical collocations in undergraduate theses‘
abstracts between English students and Law students. This research used a
quantitative approach with a comparative design. The corpora of this research
were 30 undergraduate theses‘ abstracts written by both English and Law students
in 2021 that were taken by using the documentation technique. The data were
analyzed by; 1) comparing the translation results of lexical collocations from
Indonesian into English; 2) the translation results in each lexical collocation were
judged as error and correct translation; 3) the frequency of error and correct
translation were calculated by using the percentage formula. The results revealed
that Adjective + Noun collocation was the most often erroneously translated by
English students. Likewise, the most often error translated by Law students was
Adjective + Noun collocation. In addition, the number of translation errors in
lexical collocations was higher in undergraduate theses‘ abstract of Law students
than in undergraduate theses‘ abstracts of English students. In conclusion,English
students had better translations in translating the lexical collocations in
undergraduate theses‘ abstracts than Law students had. This research implies that
both parties students still need improvement in translating lexical collocations in
their undergraduate theses‘ abstracts.
