Abstract
Students’ Anxiety can impact the learning process. High level of students’
anxiety especially in English presentation classes obviously becomes a
very serious problem for students. Therefore, that problem is important to
be investigated as the aim of this study was: (1) to find out the levels of
anxiety experienced by the first-semester students of the postgraduate
program in English Education at University of Bengkulu (2) to determine
the factors that influence the students’ anxiety levels in-class presentations
and (3) to reveal the students’ ways in reducing their anxiety. The subject
of this research was 21 students in the first semester of the postgraduate
English Education Program at University of Bengkulu. To fulfill these
research aims, mixed method was used in this study. The researcher used
questionnaires and Interviews the instruments in collecting data. After
conducting the research, the result revealed that most students are at a
“mildly anxious” level in doing presentation. Additionally, the researcher
found that there were three main factors that significantly influence their
anxiety. The factors were communication apprehension, test anxiety, and
fear of evaluation. Furthermore, to overcome their anxiety students have
their own ways such as being well prepare before presentation, practicee
as much as possible, not overthinking, holding a thing, doing physical
movements, and relaxing.
