Abstract

This study analyzed the English Course Material for Economic Students at IAIN
Kerinci. The objectives of this research are to find out: 1) the course materials that
are required in learning activities for Economic Students of IAIN Kerinci; 2) the
language skills that the Economic Students need at IAIN Kerinci; and 3) the
learning activities that are appropriate to facilitate learning based on the course
materials required by Economic Students at IAIN Kerinci. The research method
used was a mix-method. The instruments that used are questionnaires for 50
students from sixth and eight semester, and interviews for six stakeholders. The
first results showed that English teaching materials by learning activities are
teaching materials that contain a series of economic terms that was distributed
with learning activities that include student activity. The second results of
research for the skills that students‘ need the most are reading and speaking
followed with writing. Third, appropriate learning activities in facilitating learning
are learning activities using the Drill and QNA methods by using flash cards
which can also support the improvement of Reading, Speaking, and Writing skills
based on the results of the responses obtained. The result of this research can be
used as a basis for developing English teaching materials for the economy in order
to create better material.
