IDIOMATIC EXPRESSION ON SILK SONIC’S ALBUM ENTITLED “AN EVENING WITH SILK SONIC” IN 2021

This research discussed the idiomatic expression used by Silk Sonic in their
album with titled ‘An Evening with Silk Sonic’ in 2021. It aimed to understand the
different types and meanings of idiomatic expression found in Silk Sonic track lyrics,
and also the function of idiomatic expression. Using descriptive qualitative method, the
data were obtained from Silk Sonic’s album lyrics transcript and untilized a checklist
instrument table to gather the data. The data analyzed by using a theory from McCarthy
and O’Dell (2010). The research revealed the idiomatic expression types used by Silk
Sonic’s album, the data occurrence of each type was 1 simile, 7 euphemisms, 29 fixed
statement, and 0 data of the binomial, proverb and cliché types. The meaning of each
action was also described as the results. The function found in this research is the
function for emphasis with a total of 30 data. The reseacher suggest to conduct a
research that analyze a literary work such as poetry that really uses idiomatic
expressions for the beauty of its poetry.
