Abstract
This study investigates the moral values embedded in narrative texts within English
textbooks for senior high school students, specifically focusing on the Merdeka
curriculum. Grounded in Borba's (2001) model of moral values, the research
analyzes textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Culture of
Indonesia, specifically for grades 10 and 12. Using a descriptive qualitative research
design, the study examines how these moral values are represented in narrative
texts, which are rich in ethical lessons and cultural insights. The analysis reveals
that empathy is the most dominant moral value present in the texts, followed by
kindness and conscience. Empathy is emphasized for its role in fostering
understanding and connection among individuals, aligning with the curriculum's
goals of enhancing social and emotional intelligence.
