Abstract

This study examined the perception of students at the English Education Study Program
at the University of Bengkulu regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to
enhance writing tasks. The research explores the functionality and value of AI tools
such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and QuillBot in supporting English writing. A
quantitative approach was employed, involving 261 students across multiple academic
levels. Data collection was conducted using a validated questionnaire that assessed
perceptions and practices related to AI tools in writing. This study utilized descriptive
statistics to interpreted the data that receive. The result showed that most students
positively view AI tools as beneficial for improving grammar, vocabulary, organization,
and style within 65% students completely perceived positive about the AI tools. The
study highlights key features such as error correction, vocabulary enhancement, and
helped to manage idea as the most valued functionalities. Despite concerns over
originality and potential misuse, students acknowledge AI's role in reorganization the
writing process and encouragement. As reflection of the results, future research
preferably focus on understanding the long-term effects of AI tools on creativity,
motivation, and academic development, as well as exploring underutilized features and
their potential benefits. By investigating how AI tools are applied across different
disciplines and educational levels, will provide deeper insights into their impact on
writing and learning.
